Aircon not blowing cold air
There are numerous issues that the air conditioning unit is blowing out warm air. The likely cause is due to lack of aircon maintenance. Common causes of aircon not blowing out cold air:
• Faulty compressor
• Thermostat is faulty
• Aircon filters are dirty and clogged
• Gas leak resulting in low refrigerant gas
Dirty aircon air filters affect the proper flow of cold air. Aircon filters are easily removed, wash or replaced with new one.
The condenser contains the condenser coil, compressor, fan and various components. Faulty aircon compressor is usually due to overheating, motor issues or faulty wiring.
For aircon gas leak, pipes corrosion could be the main cause of which. High dosages of the gas leaks can cause headaches and nausea. It can also affect the heart, central nervous system and our major organs.
Regular and prompt aircon servicing is essential to maintain cold and clean air for our healthy living.
Aircon water leaking
One of the most common causes of water leakage is due to clogged drainage. The dirt, dust and fungus accumulated that block the proper flow of the discharged water.
Dirty air filters block the airflow into the evaporator coil which then causes it to freeze (due to drop in temperature). When the ice melts, the water could leak out of the aircon.
Poor maintenance of air conditioner due to delayed or neglected aircon servicing could affect the aircon to function optimally. The air conditioner needs to be regularly cleaned and maintained as poor maintenance could lead to water leakages.
Aircon smells bad
When the air conditioner smells bad, it is clear that something is not right on your aircon unit. The aircon smells could be due to;
• Mold growth
• Burnt components or parts
• Stagnant water in drain line
• Dirty drain pan or evaporator coil
Dirty drain pan or evaporator coil can attract microbial growth that can give off unpleasant odours. A quick DIY aircon maintenance is to check and clean the aircon air filters to remove any signs of mold. Empty the drain pan of any water. Clean the drain pan with soap and water to remove any possible build-up mold.
Fungi grows in humid environment. It creates harm in parasitic infections and allergic reactions. Bad aircon smell is not healthy and can be distressing. It is certainly time for proper aircon servicing, maintenance or repair.
Aircon noisy
Air conditioner could be rattling, clunking, screeching or has low whirring noises. The aircon noises could simply be due to debris inside the aircon unit or there are broken parts in it. Common causes of the aircon noises;
• Refrigerant leak
• Faulty fan motor
• Faulty fan blades
• Loose aircon parts
For aircon rattling sound, it could be a sign of loose aircon parts or screws loosen with time due to the aircon vibrations. If the location of the loosen screws are known, a simple screwdriver can do the trick in tightening it.
At times, due to the aircon moving parts friction, such as the aircon fan, lubrication on the moving parts might help to reduce the noise.
When the aircon compressor is worn out, the grinding noise can be caused by the pistons that compress the refrigerant gas. Most of the aircon compressor noises can be attributed to frictions within it. To reduce the sound from the aircon compressors, it is good to maintain a reasonable distance between the compressor and workspace or install the air compressor in a separate room.
