In house planning, the questions of where to locate the lighting and electrical points will come into our mind.
A good interior designer or a contractor will plan this with you in the early stages of your renovation. This will give allowances for switches and electrical points for built-ins. It is best to get started on the lighting and electrical points before any work commences.
Light points are where the wiring runs to provide power for your light fittings. Light points are typically installed with the house plans in mind. The traditional method for illuminating a subject is the use of three-point lighting set-up. The three types of lights are key light, fill light, and back light. Key light is the primary and brightest light source in the three-point lighting setup.
Basically, there are four main types of lighting which are ambient, task, accent and decorative.
For electrical points, you may plan to have two on each wall. A power point is usually placed in a wall where you can connect electrical equipment to the electricity supply.
The voltage can be measured by a multi-meter. Insert a probe into each slot and read the line voltage measurement. A properly working outlet gives a reading of 110 to 120 volts. If there is no reading, check the wiring and the outlet.
Over time, power points get faulty due to surge in power, burnt wires or the wiring was installed incorrectly. A simple switch on and switch off strategy to test if it works.
It is recommended that you should engage an electrician to help with the power points installation.
